Nina Simone Would Like To Remind You Why You Have A Three-Day Weekend
“My job is to somehow make them curious enough
—or persuade them by hook or crook—
to get more aware of themselves.”
Macy's and Best Buy might like to keep you thinking in terms of sales and savings today, but the spirit of Nina Simone would like to remind you:
It's Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
I know You can take 10 minutes for this
Plug in your headphones, hit "play," and spend a minuscule amount of minutes in your day to keep things in perspective:
On April 7, 1968, three days after the death of the "King of Love," Nina Simone showed up to a sold out concert hall, and sang her beautiful, broken heart out.
She dedicated her performance to King's memory.
So let's remember.
Let's remember a man who made change in the world by preaching love over fear.
“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound
to the starless midnight of racism and war
that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood
can never become a reality.
I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.”
Let's honor his memory by continuing his work.
