Something Unplanned | 24 Hours in San Diego
When all your plans fall through, do something unplanned.
I had big plans for last weekend. I was going to fly to San Francisco for the Yoga Journal Conference. I was going to spend three days practicing with Maty and Seane. I was going to practice backbends and inversions. I was going to write and rest and meditate.
Long story short, all my plans fell through. But I was left with a free weekend and nothing to do. So Nathan and I got in the car and started driving.
We ran away for 24 hours. It reminded me of when Nathan and I first met, and all our excursions felt like unplanned adventures.
Most of them were.
First stop: Hidden House | San Juan Capistrano
Because we may have been on the run, but we couldn't make it very far without our morning coffee.
Lunch at 976 Cafe | Pacific Beach, San Diego
My first visit to 976 was well over a decade ago. I was in San Diego with some friends (among them, Nathan!), and we stopped here for sandwiches. That was long before I worked at Alta--another cafe-in-an-old-house--but even then it felt familiar and right.
Now, sitting in the garden stirs up so many memories--all the hours I've spent here, with friends or alone. So much dreaming and scheming.
Rummaging Around in OB | Ocean Beach, San Diego
Of all the neighborhoods in San Diego, Ocean Beach is where my heart is.
It's alternative, and a little rough around the edges, but full of heart and Nag Champa.
It's also home to two of my favorite places in the world:
FAVORITE PLACE #1: NEWPORT AVENUE ANTIQUE CENTER
If you're looking to get lost...
FAVORITE PLACE #2: JUNGLE JAVA
This place is so authentic and beautiful and one-of-a-kind, and gives zero f*cks about whatever latte art all the new, pretentious third-wave coffee shops are doing. Jungle Java has thrived as an outdoor coffee spot for 25 years. Talk about deep roots.
Hotel Yoga the morning after | Palomar Hotel, San Diego
Because, yogaeverydamnday..
Wandering around Balboa Park
Coffee pit stop at Dark Horse | north Park, San Diego
SALK Institute | La Jolla
Sooo..... when we got there, we discovered nearly the entire building was covered with scaffolding for renovations. Still,
