Get Outside | 24 Hours in Anza-Borrego State Park

Sometimes the hardest part about adventuring is getting yourself out the door. If you can make it that far, the rest unfolds effortlessly.

If you want to make every day an adventure, all you have to do is prioritize adventure. It has to become more important than routine.

Nathan and I are busy.

We've got responsibilities to manage, and errands to run. We have people to care for and answer to.

We have bills to pay.

Sometimes we feel so tired that talking seems like too much effort. Sometimes the couch is the only destination we can handle.

That's how we were feeling on Saturday afternoon. We contemplated saying home. We discussed using the next 24 hours to sleep. We imagined waking up on the other side of Easter Sunday feeling fully rested and relaxed.

Instead, we got in the car and started driving.

We know what it looks like to wake up from a long nap in our apartment. But we'd never seen the night sky from the Anza-Borreggo desert.

We decided we'd rather wear ourselves out exploring unknown trails, than cozy up on our perhaps too familiar couch (as tempting as it was).

The funny thing is, the minute we got in the car, everything felt different. It was as if a little wanderlust angel had snapped her fingers, and just like that, we were ready for anything. We listened Neil Young and Father John Misty, we got lost and then found again, we ate french fries and chocolate. By the time we got to Anza, we were laughing and wide-eyed and ready

We only had 24 hours, but we lived up every last minute. When we made it home, we had sore feet, tired legs, wind-blown hair, and no regrets.

The point is, there will always be a million excuses to stay right where you are.

But there is a reason to keep moving that beats all of them: freedom.

That's the one to keep chasing.
